ਮੁੱਢ ਕਦੀਮ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਸਵਾਰਥੀ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਮਾਈ, ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨ, ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਜਾਂ ਕਹਿ ਲਈਏ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿਜ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ, ਇਸ ਸਵਾਰਥ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਹਥਿਆਰਾ ਤੱਕ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਲਈ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਕੁਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੱਜ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਸੇ ਸਵਾਰਥੀ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੇਖਕ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦਾ ਅਧਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਲਈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਇਹ ਪੰਛੀ, ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤੂ, ਹਵਾ-ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ, ਆਲਾ ਦੁਆਲਾ ਸਭ ਕੁੱਝ ਅਸੀਂ ਦਾਅ ਤੇ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਚਾਇਨਾ ਦੀ ਡੋਰ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਹਾਦਸਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਇਸਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਸ਼ਰੇਆਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਿਰਫ ਘੜੀ ਪਲ ਦੇ ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨ ਲਈ ਕਿੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਪਛੂ-ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨ ਦੀ ਬਲੀ ਚਾੜ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਅੱਜ ਵੰਡ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ਓਹੋ ਘੁੰਮ ਕੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਣਾ ਹੈ, ਆਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ ਸੁਨੇਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਵੀ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ...
